Securly
Providing safe learning environments for students is a top priority at Oregon Charter Academy, especially safety in the digital learning environment. All student Chromebooks are protected through Securly, a cloud-based filtering system, 24/7. This means students can learn anytime, anywhere and always experience the same level of digital safety when on ORCA devices.
While ORCA Chromebooks are filtered 24/7, we understand that what each family feels their child should be able to access on them differs from household to household. Through the SecurlyHome Parent Portal app, families can supervise their child’s technology use on district devices by:
Monitoring their child’s activity
Establishing personalized rules/limitations
Filtering content their child is able to access
Receiving push notifications if their child searches content related to bullying, self-harm or suicide while using a district device (Parents who download the app will automatically be opted-in to receive real-time notifications if their child searches flagged self-harm content)
Pausing the internet to temporarily disable online access
Setting offline schedules for their child’s internet use
Oregon Charter Academy has already implemented a base set of rules and restrictions that apply to every student’s ORCA-managed Chromebook and cannot be changed. These include restrictions on access to games and non-academic content, as well as monitoring for content related to bullying, self-harm or suicide.
SETTING UP YOUR SECURLY PARENT ACCOUNT
ORCA will automatically sign up for a Securly account for you with the email address you provide during registration. Within the first two weeks of the Chromebook being used you should receive a weekly report of your student’s internet usage and sites visited.
The email from Securly will read “Your Child ______’s Activity Report” in the subject line. Either click on “Go to my parent portal” or “Sign up for Securly, it’s free.” Then, complete the prompts to be directed to the portal. You now have access to your parent portal for your student!
