Allison Galvin, Executive Director
Oregon Charter Academy
Before joining Oregon Charter Academy (ORCA) in 2011, Allison was a math teacher and instructional coach in the Salem-Keizer School District. Today she leads the state’s first virtual school as executive director.
ORCA is a free virtual public charter school serving students in grades K-12 throughout Oregon. Established 18 years ago, it was originally named Oregon Connections Academy. In 2020, the school moved to an independent management model, named Oregon Charter Academy, in order to better serve students with customized approaches to standards-based curriculum and better technology.
Allison continuously works to ensure ORCA’s educational practices meet 21st-century standards. She’s been instrumental in developing college credit and credit recovery options, establishing unique relationships with outside organizations like NASA, and empowering teachers to engage students through flexible learning environments.
Allison is available to comment on:
School safety, including the prevention of online bullying.
Technology’s ever-changing role in education.
Equitable access to school options in Oregon — the 3% cap rule limits how many students can attend virtual public charter schools.
And more!
