High School Curriculum in Oregon

Learning priorities shift as students enter high school, but at Oregon Charter Academy, our focus on the Four C’s remains the same. By emphasizing communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, we prepare students for success in post-secondary education, careers, and a global society. Our high school curriculum utilizes cutting-edge technology and curated resources in an advanced virtual environment to prepare students with future-focused skills in core subjects and beyond.

Our Core High School Curriculum

Oregon Charter Academy’s high school curriculum equips students for success after graduation regardless of their academic or career path. Offerings in core subject areas include honors courses, lab science classes, and coursework that earns dual credits with local community college partners. Core areas of study include:

LANGUAGE ARTS

Writing and communication skills are essential for professional and personal success. All high school students complete grade-appropriate English language arts coursework, and qualifying students may pursue Advanced Placement (AP) courses for college credit.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Social studies encompass U.S. and global history, as well as the social sciences, giving students opportunities to understand the world through a more informed lens. Courses are offered in government, economics, finance, psychology, and sociology with Advanced Placement (AP) options available.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics education encourages a wide range of skills, from analytical thinking to problem-solving. Coursework in algebra, geometry, integrated mathematical applications, pre-calculus, calculus, and statistics helps prepare students for post-secondary study and includes AP classes.

SCIENCES

As STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education rises in importance, a strong foundation in scientific concepts prepares students for the technologies of today and tomorrow. Physical and environmental science, biology, chemistry, and physics provide a well-rounded scientific education, while AP coursework and marine science, astronomy, and anatomy and physiology offer additional options.

CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Career explorations, job shadows, workplace experiences, and similarly career-focused opportunities help students plan their professional paths and prepare for life beyond high school.

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

By participating in physical education classes, students understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. These courses help students explore sports and fitness activities, nutrition, wellness, and more.

Elective Courses

As students consider their future education and careers, we foster these explorations through a broad range of electives. These courses help students deepen their knowledge in specific focus areas, refine their interests, and get a head start on their chosen career path. Elective course categories include:

  • Art

  • Music

  • Film

  • Spanish, French, and American Sign Language (ASL)

  • Computer science and skills

  • Programming

  • Business

  • Digital literacy

  • Marketing

  • Early childhood education

  • Medical sciences

  • College preparation

  • Criminal justice and forensics

  • And more

Curriculum for Special Populations

Our Alternative Curriculum accommodates students seeking an Alternative Certificate rather than a traditional high school diploma. Courses cover a broad range of topics that promote consumer literacy and successful adult living, including decision-making, prioritization, money management, interpersonal relationships, nutrition, and more.

Students enrolled in our English as a Second Language (ESL) program for nonnative speakers engage in immersive listening, speaking, reading, and writing coursework to rapidly acquire English language proficiency. Classes include a focus on the diverse cultures of the United States and prepare students for entry to our English language academic programs.
