Graduating Creswell Student Prepares for Next Adventures

Oregon Charter Academy is proud to announce that senior Elena Morris will attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) College in New York state this fall.

“After receiving my acceptance letter to college, I reflected on my time at ORCA and was so grateful for the many social opportunities I discovered around my passions in poetry, music, and theater,” said Morris.

While deciding to attend an online school can be a difficult decision, Morris believes that the personal discipline ORCA required, along with its many extracurricular opportunities, will help her transition from high school to college. Not only has Morris learned in the virtual classroom, she's connected with students through clubs, field trips, and a recent poetry competition.

“Online school has helped tremendously in creating a healthy balance of my interests and education,” said Morris. “There’s more time for me to focus on what I love, which ultimately has helped shape my future.”

ORCA offers more than 30 clubs that are student-driven and divided between elementary, middle and high school. Morris is part of the Breakfast Club, the Music Club, and the Pens and Prose Club, the latter of which facilitates conversations about poetry and helps create future writers. Morris credits the Pens and Prose Club for her most recent win in ORCA’s Poetry Out Loud Competition.

“Every group I’m involved in has helped me grow in some way,” said Morris. “Having the opportunity to share my passions with other students, whether strumming a guitar solo or reciting my favorite poem, has given me the support I need.”

Building a sense of community and belonging is a huge part of ORCA’s mission, which includes promoting academic success and developing well-rounded citizens. ORCA offers unique opportunities, such as our college readiness program (AVID), our career and technical education program (ASCEND), our astrology/space club (hosted by NASA staff), and more.
