AVID
WHAT IS AVID?
AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
Below you can view the snapshot of the AVID Impact in Oregon, for all students who are enrolled in AVID schools.
ORCA is one of a few virtual schools in Oregon that has the AVID program implemented. The 2022-2023 school year will be the fifth school year of AVID implementation and will have the AVID elective at grades 6 - 12.
The goal of the AVID program at ORCA is to implement the strategies of AVID school-wide to impact all learners at all grade levels to further support them in their post-secondary goals.
In the 2021-22 school year, ORCA will celebrate it's first group of graduating AVID Elective Seniors.
Who is the AVID student at ORCA?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. A successful AVID student at Oregon Charter Academy is a student who has motivation to maximize their potential for success in post-secondary options. Traits of successful AVID students include:
High engagement in school: This includes attending live class regularly and collaborating with peers.
High aspirations for future endeavors: Students who are best fits for the AVID elective classes are those who dream of going to college, starting careers and are willing to work hard to make that happen.
Perseverance and Grit: The AVID elective is a rigorous elective class, unlike many others in the elective field.
Desire to connect with their peers and build a supportive community: Since AVID meets regularly through live class, the elective students form a supportive, close-knit community with their peers.
