Michael: 10th Grade

REASON FOR ONLINE SCHOOL: IEP SUPPORT

About Michael

Michael is a 10th grade student at Oregon Charter Academy. He recently switched to Oregon Charter Academy after struggling in a brick-and-mortar setting his freshman year. Michael has ADHD and has trouble focusing in the classroom. His parents decided to try online school to remove the distractions of the classroom, and enrolled at Oregon Charter Academy, where Michael is now thriving.

Michael’s Schedule

Michael is enrolled in 4 Core courses and 2 electives at Oregon Charter Academy, which is standard for his age. Some of these courses meet live multiple times per week; others meet only once per week. When Michael is not attending Live Class, there is other assigned work for him to complete asynchronously.

In addition to his standard courses, Michael is also enrolled in courses for Counseling, Advisory, Career Ed, and the HS Principal’s Corner. These are not classes which he must attend and complete work for—they are spaces Michael can visit for resources. View Michael’s live class schedule below.

A Typical Day

Live Classes are only a part of a student’s day at Oregon Charter Academy. In our program, students complete much of their work asynchronously, on their own schedule. They can reach out to their teachers for one-on-one support whenever they need it. Continue reading to see what Michael’s daily schedule typically looks like!

DAY OF THE WEEK: TUESDAY

  • Michael likes that his schedule is flexible and prefers to sleep in a little, so he wakes up at 9, gets dressed, and goes downstairs for breakfast.

  • After breakfast, Michael looks over his to-do list for the day. He has a quiz due in Physics, so he completes it. He loves that his tests are open-note, and that he doesn’t have to be pulled out of the classroom and separated from his peers to get extra time for his IEP.

  • After Michael finishes his quiz, he completes some reading before his Language Arts class.

  • Michael attends the Live Class for Language Arts Foundations.

  • Right after Language Arts Foundations, Michael has another Live Class - Physics.

  • After his Physics class, Michael takes a break. He makes himself a sandwich and watches the new episode of a show he’s been watching.

  • Michael is more productive later in the evening, so he decides to take it easy and play some video games. He also does a workout, and logs it for his Personal Fitness class.

  • Michael works through the rest of his work for the day, asking his mom for help on a few assignments. He finishes up around 7, right in time for dinner.
