Immunizations

Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, childcare facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon. If you do not meet state immunization requirements, you will receive a letter stating that your children must be immunized or will not be admitted to school starting on the school exclusion date. The school exclusion date for the 2023-2024 school year is February 14, 2024.

Oregon allows for non-medical, medical and immunity exemptions; however, medical and immunity exemptions must be verified by a health care provider in a signed document. This document must contain certain information, including the child's name and date of birth, along with details of the reason for exemption. Information about non-medical exemptions can be found here. You can learn about ORCA's board policy on Immunizations here.

LEARN MORE ABOUT WHERE TO GET IMMUNIZATIONS

Immunizations can be obtained from doctor’s offices, clinics, or hospitals. In addition, some large chain pharmacies offer immunizations for older children and adults.

In the state of Oregon, most pediatric and family practice clinics offer immunizations. If your child has a regular medical provider, we recommend calling that office for an appointment for immunizations. If your child does not have a regular provider, you can contact your local county health department, or call 1-800-SAFENET (1-800-723-3638). They will be able to help you find a clinic where your child can be immunized.

The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to pay. Children who are eligible for VFC vaccines are entitled to receive pediatric vaccines that are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
